Some users encounter barriers when purchasing NIH Toolbox subscriptions through the App Store (e.g., the subscription limit of 10 iPads, use of institutional MDM which does not allow in-app purchases). The Toolbox Assessments license account is an alternative method to gain access to the NIH Toolbox V3 apps.
Toolbox Assessment licenses require a License Manager to oversee user credentials that are created outside the NIH Toolbox apps. Each license has one set of credentials (i.e., email and password). After downloading the NIH Toolbox V3 app, a user can enter their credentials in the app and gain full access to the NIH Toolbox V3 app (though users of Cognition tests must first request free access to the Cognition domain at NIHToolbox.org). Each license can remain logged in on that iPad, or it can be logged out and logged in on a different iPad.
If you are interested in purchasing NIH Toolbox licenses using this method, please review the following, then contact Toolbox Assessments User Support at help@nihtoolbox.org.
- You must pay for the invoice from within the United States. Users outside the United States must purchase NIH Toolbox subscriptions from the App Store.
- Determine the details of each license you need:
- Number of licenses for each NIH Toolbox V3 app
- Would you like all licenses to share the same email/password? Or would you like each license to have a separate email/password?
- License duration (i.e., 1 year or 2 years)
The cost for Toolbox Assessments licenses is based on the number of licenses/devices, and is not the same as pricing available in the App Store. Please contact Toolbox Assessments User Support at help@nihtoolbox.org for pricing.
Process of Obtaining an NIH Toolbox License
Important Definitions
License: Time-limited, credential-based access to a specific NIH Toolbox app. This is NOT the same as a subscription, which can be purchased in the NIH Toolbox app or in the Apple App Store.
License Manager: The manager who oversees the account. This person can assign users to each license, manage user credentials, and reset devices or licenses. The License Manager is the representative for the account and can contact Toolbox Assessments User Support with any questions.
License User: A person who, with valid credentials, can access and use the NIH Toolbox app.
Important to Note
- All users will still need to know the NIH Toolbox app’s 8-digit passcode, which is required to gain access to the app. Each app only has ONE 8-digit passcode; it is not unique to each user.
- A license gives users access to the NIH Toolbox app, but it does not link NIH Toolbox data to a license. Participant information, assessments, custom batteries, collected data, etc. remains in the app, on the iPad it was collected on.
- Logging into another iPad will not transfer any information from the previous iPad.
- Logging into the NIH Toolbox app on an iPad that is shared by multiple users will show all information and data that has been created and collected in that app, on that iPad.
- All sales are final; no refunds, in full or in part, are permitted.
- Each license MUST have a unique email associated with it.
